Huston Smith

American scholar of religion (1919–2016), born in Suzhou to Methodist missionary parents. His book The World's Religions has sold more than three million copies and taught a generation to read the traditions on their own terms. He practised what he wrote about: Vedanta under Swami Satprakashananda, Zen under Goto Zuigan, and Sufism, each for more than ten years.
